I have been looking for a pair of blue tooth earphones that aren’t huge. Those new ones are perfect! Any idea where I can get them? We don’t have a motorola store here, if there is such a thing. (insert redneck joke here) And I still need something for my Easter basket. I’m so looking at the shuffle later. My hubby has all the gadgets he wants, why not me?

How much do those earphones cost?

Very cool.  I’m going to have to get a set of these.  My MP3 player already has bluetooth.  What about battery life though.  With standard headphones I can play music for about 5 or 6 hours.  I imagine that having the bluetooth transmitter on will drain the battery a lot faster.

I don’t think I’ll ever get another iPod.  I like the PDA with extra SD and CF cards.  No restriction on what I play and where I play it, and no DRM to deal with.  I found selecting specific songs and creating play lists on the iPod to be very cumbersome, and no bookmark features that let you start back up where you last stopped.

Hey Paula.  iPods do have a bookmark function.  The file has to be recorded in the MP4 format.  Most audiobooks come as MP4s now.  Anyothers can be converted with freewares.

Hey Tom - do those headphones stay on well during a workout?  I can’t really tell from the picture if there would be slippage problems.

Paula,
Your such a geek! I think I’m in love, all this talk about non DRM music is making me giddy! Are you into opens source software?iIs Ubuntu your favorite distro of linux? LOL  I used to use my Ipaq 2410 as a mp3 player and video player. but for the gym I could see the sweat damaging it. I agree about the I pod thing, I hate anything that forces you into using proprietary sofwtware, I know there are alternatives to Itunes, for me it’s just a matter of principle. Bluetooth is very power efficient.

Chad - Thanks for the info.

Shawn - Watch what you say, your girlfriend may be on line.

I am a bit of a geek.  I am into open source software, but I haven’t installed Linux at home yet.  I did put Solaris on one old desktop unit, but I had the big toys at work and didn’t want to spend all my time at home on the computer.  (have to balance the geek with the jock) For now I’ve beaten windows XP into submission for my home network.  I don’t write code anymore, except to play with proof of concept or to do some troubleshooting / debugging.  After changing jobs, now a solution architect doing implementations, I spend more time writing documents in word than writing software.  I guess that’s progress rasberry

the new motorola behind the ear bluetooth earphones will be out in a month or so

....Bree, you should be able to google it to find who sells it, and I know it will be available to purchase online.

The batter life spec is 6 hours

don’t know if they stay on well, but all the behind the ears ones I have tried work well.  The one I use now above my head (the Plantronics) work fine, except when I do 250 cruches...they tend to slip with al the up and down.....no big deal…

Not sure of cost, but I read something like $99.00 or so ...that does not include the ‘receiver’ if playing with a non bluetooth devise (like my current 30g video iPod)

Sounds like we created some excitement!

These will work perfect with the new iPhone from Apple....but Paula wouldn’t be caught dead with that! lol wink

Shawn - I use my HP iPAQ with built in bluetooth (no receiver required) for both music and audio books.

Tom - You’re right, lots of excitement.  You’re right the apple iPhone doesn’t meet my technical requirements for integration with my desktop applications, availability of open source software, and freedom from proprietary formats.  I do hope it invites competition and inspires development of something better.  So far, none of the ‘smart’ phones are smart enough.

This is an awesome thread!

I love music (especially the 80s), podcasts and my ipod.  I listen to my ipod several hours a day.

Does anyone use Rhapsody to Go?  My husband has a sansa that works with rhapsody and I have tried it out a few times.  If you use Rhapsody to go what do you think of it?  I like that you can subscribe to channels and when you rate the songs it will help it better select songs in the future.  I also like the fact that you can create your own playlists.  However, as it is only 4 GBs it fills up quickly.

Have a great day - off for my hour walk on Cape Cod with my cocker spaniel, Charlie!

The song Discotech by Young Love.
You cannot help but move to this song.  And the window-down-drive factor is an 11.

Also “Too Young to Fight It” and “Find a New Way” from the same record are iPod Gym Essentials.
