My mom bought ice cream today. And the fact that the carton said that it was “healthy” made me think, “wait.......something’s wrong.” Then I noticed the carton was BLUE! We all know what that can indicate. Yep........"Light"(dun dun dun!), so I informed my mother(this has happened before.......). Having remembered our past experiences with “Light” ANYTHING, she was not thrilled. Later she told me it tasted good. But the fact that it wasn’t like.....Cherry Garcia or Chunkey Munkey made it a lot easier not to eat. So I dodged that bullet.
However, I did drink a Full Throttle, and now my lips are orange and I look like a retard.
Brandon - sounds like you’re really doing well with this challenge! I have done “okay.” I suppose. I certainly have turned away from sugar on some occasions - more than I would have otherwise - so in that sense it’s a success. This week I aim to turn away more times than last week! It’s all a learning curve, right?
Hi, I’m a little late but I’d like to join you on this challenge. I thought about waiting until I get my exercise habit established. But I know that I NEED to do this now. Sugar is one of those things that makes me feel lousy and I know I’ll feel better if I can get this habit under control.
I haven’t been perfect but I’ve cut down a fair amount. During the past week I had a small piece of cake, a Full Throttle, a sugary condiment here and there, and probably a couple other little things.
I certainly have turned away from sugar on some occasions - more than I would have otherwise - so in that sense it’s a success.
Exactly right. It’s absolutely a success because you have flexed a clear and defined measure of control over a habit. And that muscle will just get stronger and stronger, so to speak.
Boy did I blow the sugar challenge this weekend. I was in the kayak instructor development workshop this weekend and every break, there was sugar in every form - sweet tea, chocolate, snickers bars. etc. Because of our activity level, it was probably OK for the weekend, but I want to get out of that mode right now.
By posting here, I can declare my commitment to pickup where I was last week and move forward from there.
Your activity would definitely have leveled out your blood sugar somewhat, and burned calories! So that’s good, unlike if someone was doing nothing all day.
Good fortunes going forward!
Okay I won’t be participating next week because as some of you may know, I am going out of city. And there’s no way I have time or patience enough to try and figure that all out, haha. But I’ll make sure I don’t go way overboard. And then after that, I have to pay for some of that good livin’ I’d been doing from Thursday-Sunday.
What sorts of sugary things challenge you most - candies, candy bars, chocolate, baked goods
I like them all, of course! But my biggest challenges are what I eat during coffee breaks at work: a muffin in the morning, and a candy bar in the afternoon.
Today I skipped the muffin, and although I did eat a little square of chocolate that happened to be sitting at my desk, I managed to skip the Snicker’s bar in the afternoon. I have no chocolate in the house, so I think I’m safe for the rest of the day.
As someone who is battling against sugar right now, I also suggest in avoiding the “white foods”. Besides the obvious one sugar, I also mean pasta, white bread, and rice. All are packed with carbs, and those are sugars too. As I have been testing my blood sugars 6 times daily, I can tell you that those foods will spike your blood sugar...something those of us with a lot of weight to loose really should avoid.
