I love fish - and I know it’s a good part of eating healthy, but my boyfriend is VERY allergic to it, even the smell will swell his face up! He’s allergic to most nuts as well. Does anyone know of a good substitute for fish? We use chicken a lot of the time, but I was wondering if there’s anything I haven’t thought of.
Hmm, tofu sounds like an interesting idea. Turkey is great too!
Yeah he’s allergic to all fish. We recently found out shellfish is okay, but he’s so used to staying away from it that he doesn’t like the taste.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of fish either… long story. Basically, I got really sick once as a kid after eating fish, and can’t stand the smell (or taste) of it. There are many good oils in fish as well, but you can get many of those Omega 3’s from Flax Seed and other sources.
Tips always appreciated :o) Good luck in your search for knowledge!
If it is the omega3 that you looking to replace there is always nori, darce, and kelp all varietys of see weed, being in Halifax I think it would be readly available, if not check out an asian grocer, they have all sorts of see weed.
Can he use an Omega-3 supplement? That way you knew you were getting the essential oils that are in fish, I’m thinking of adding that to my vitamin regimen. Good luck!
Thanks for the ideas guys!
Shawn - I know what you’re talking about. I love sushi myself, but I didn’t realize the seaweed had Omega 3 in them - cool! There are lots of asian grocers around here too.
I’m a big fan of Veggie “meat” products. They taste much better then they sound. Like meatless ground beef and burgers. Great low cal/low cholesterol substitute for the real thing.
Her is an iteresting note, the Japanese and the Eskimos have the lowest rates of cancer in the world. Both eat fish, and the Japanese eat alot of see vegitation
