I noticed that since I put a bowl full of apples and a decorative plate with filled with bananas on the island we store next to the entrance of the kitchen, there has been a dramatic increase in how much fruit my family and I eat. We walk past the fruit dozens of times a day, and when I catch myself hungry, I automatically grab an apple now. It also keeps me full longer. I guess we grab what’s easy, look around, what do you have conveniently located for healthy munching?

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

To tri is to risk failure, not to tri is to guarantee it!

Yep, I’m a big fan of the fruit bowl.

I worked out I really don’t like to eat cold fruit. I’m fine if it’s at room temp.

Having the bowl makes it much easier for the boys to grab something to eat when they are about to chew off my leg. Like Tom, I keep carrot sticks in the fridge ready to go (yep, those I CAN eat cold...go figure!)

Hi guys,

Great idea!  I haven’t tried that yet, mostly since I don’t do the groceries in our house, but you can bet that when I’m living on my own, I’m going to try this one out!

Cheers,
Julie

I will make fruit smoothies.  I’ll add several fruits together along with a fruit juice (100% fruit).  Instead of fruit juice, I’ll also add Silk soy milk.  After the smoothie, I feel great with loads of energy.  One of my favorites…

1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup fresh strawberries
1 kiwi (with skin....cut off the ends)
1 cup soy milk

I don’t measure the quantity I put in my drinks.  The above measurements are estimates.  I’ve used papayas, bananas, plums, kiwis, strawberries, mangoes, apples, and blueberries in my drinks.  I keep in skins on the fruits (except for the thick skin fruits)....that’s where most of the nutrients are located.

BTW...kids love them.

When I’m traveling, if the hotel breakfast buffet has fresh fruit, I usually slip an extra piece or two into my bag and use that for snacks later in the day.  I sure beats vending machines for the afternoon munchies.

I like the idea of a fruit bowl for when I’m at home.
