Hey I think it’s great that you shared your story and still come back to check in here...it doesn’t have to be a daily thing. Obviously Motivation to Move is on your mind in some way all the time because you are doing a great job with the exercise! Congratulations on all the amazing progress you’ve made, it’s good to remind yourself how far you’ve come, taking a moment to tell yourself: job well done.
Thanks so much… formerfattie… It looks like I should check out your podcast… sounds really interesting.
I weighed in today and felt bloated but still weight in with a half pound weight loss. It is nice to understand your body’s cycles and not overreact to the scale when the weigh in isn’t great!
On another note… I was prescribed anti-depressant medication last week to deal with depression and anxiety. I originally went on anti-depressants in 2004 and it correlated to a lot of weight gain. I had been off of them for about a year but the middle of the night anxiety attacks proved to be too much.
Of course, a main concern of mine is making sure I stick with my goals of weight loss and being fit… as it seems that anti-deppressants increases my appetite and makes me more complacent. I am already noticing changes to my appetite but my doctor stated “you still have to stick the food in your mouth”!
As I mentioned before, I also like my light beers on weekends (which has been a weakness of mine for some time) but the medication will require me to cut back on alcohol… so that will help.
I know there will be ongoing changes and challenges but I.... WILL.... STAY.... FOCUSED!!!!!!!
Oh wow, I’m definitely interested in hearing about how things go with the new medication. I’ve heard about certain ones causing weight gain (Paxil, for one, but there are probably others with that correlation), and other ones not as much. Around 2003, I was on Zoloft for a year (I know what those middle of the night anxiety attacks feel like--they’re horrible!) and I didn’t notice a dramatic weight gain, although over the course of a year it did slowly creep up a few pounds. If a new medication did cause me to gain weight quickly, that would probably depress me so much it would offset the benefits of the medication!
I know you’re concerned about sticking to your goals of weight loss and being fit...it’s great that you’ve established a habit of exercise because that should serve you well as you move forward. And you’re right, there will always be changes and challenges on this journey, in many different forms from medication to injuries, accidents, life changes...it’s all about how we respond to them. Best of luck staying focused and keep us posted on how you’re doing.
I am taking Paxil… it is supposed to help me sleep through the night but one of the listed side effects is “sleeplessness”!! Isn’t that like saying that one of the side effects of a drug is that it may not work?? HAHA!!
Actually, I am already starting to see some positive effects… I do wake up in the middle of the night but I seem to be able to get back to bed within a reasonable amount of time. Other than my lil’ clinical problems and work-related issues, my life is actually quite easy… I have fewer challenges than most people have.
Haha, yeah, that list of side effects, especially for drugs acting on the brain, seems to pretty much cover the entire gamut of possibilities! Nobody can really predict how a particular drug will react with an individual’s unique body chemistry. Many people have to do the old trial-and-error game with several drugs before they find one that does the trick. Glad to hear that you’re already seeing positive effects! I think it helps that you’re supporting yourself with good exercise and proper diet, too.
Well… I am psyched!!! I got mentioned in Scott’s latest MTM podcast (for a comment regarding every picture I take for the rest of my life being an “after” picture).
This is just another one of many affirmations that my journey is a permenent one… AND I AM NEVER GOING BACK TO WHERE I WAS!!!!!!!
All of my old clothing is going to be sold at our neighborhood Garage Sale this summer or donated to Goodwill… I won’t be needing them anymore!!
I just heard that episode where Scott mentioned you, too! Very cool, I love the attitude you have about the long-haul and visualizing permanent weight loss.
Let’s see… I have been on this journey for a little more than 7 months, so that is an average of about 7 pounds a month. The only difference over the course of the last month is that my body fat percentage has stayed about the same. In previous months, I would experience decreases in body fat percentage in addition to weight loss. I am wondering if that is typical… and also wondering if I can really trust the body fat percentage function of my scale?
I will be looking forward to some shopping this weekend… I will finally be replacing my work clothes and get a couple more casual outfits to tide me over. Pics coming soon!!
Unfortunately, I am struggling to stay motivated and focused this week… work has been dragging on, the weather is awful right now, and I am nervous and preoccupied about a telephone interview I have later today. (I would normally be excited about the potential for a new opportunity, but this position would be a big step up in responsibility compared to my present job.)
