Today I ran 5 miles!!!!! That has been the most distance I have had yet!!!! I am patting my sweaty back on that one. I decided that this week I need to kick up my workouts a notch or two. I am picking up that Biggest Loser workout DVD tomorrow and plan on doing that in the mornings (hope I like the DVD!!) and my run in the afternoon. Figured if I boost up my workout a bit, I will start melting off more of these pesky pounds!!!
This has been a good Easter....I never have felt this much relief and optimism-emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It really made me think on how much God has blessed me and how smart He is-He created a wonderous Human form!!!
Great job , Julie! Sounds like you are “over the hump”.
Now that you are getting up there in mileage be mindful of your body. It’s real easy to get injured at this stage. I think you have reached a point where your cardio system is so strong that your lungs/heart are no longer the weak links, your legs are. When you feel your legs getting fatigued be sure and really concentrate on your form. If you break down and start to lean into the run you will hurt something, probably a knee, and that can be very discouraging.
Consider backing off the daily mileage for a couple days. I wouldn’t try to do 5 again until Wed or Thur. Then back off and go for 6 on Sunday. Add 1 mile to your longest run of the week each week for 3 weeks. Then take an easy week and pick back up. I think you will be shocked how easy the miles will start to add up.
But if you feel strong, don’t hold yourself back. You know what you are capable of. Five miles is a long way to run. Most people will live there whole life and never run that far. It’s a landmark accomplishment! Congratulations!
Well like I wrote down earlier, this week begins my “challenging Challenge Week"-ok so all the weeks thus far have been challenging, but I am feeling adventurous and want to kick it up a notch and see how my body changes. I added a new element to my workouts for the week....I rented the Biggest Loser 2 Workout DVD and popped that in this morning....I actually liked it (and I am a hard sell on exercise videos!!!). It gave me 9 different options, mixing and matching my workout, and well, who couldn’t get moving when Bob the trainer is kindly telling you so!!! My muscles feel weak from the workout-I got a good 40 minute routine in this morning. Worked up a salty sweat! I plan on combining that DVD with my afternoon runs on the treadmill and see what progress I make by the end of the week. I just don’t want to get “Stale” you know? (when you do the same thing over and over everyday.....bleh)
I will post my run on here as well....I feeling really pumped up about my exercise, it actually is the hightlight of my day!!
That sounds like a great exercise plan. I know what you mean by getting bored of the same routine. That happenes to me sometimes at the gym . I tend to do the same machines over and over but sometimes that has to do with availability, depending on how many people are at the gym at that time. The only thing that seems to spice things up is what kind of “eye candy” we have that day. There are some seriously buff hunks at my gym. That keeps me motivated endlessly.... I can’t wait to see who’s there tonight!
Emmi, any chance on snapping a few pics covertly? My gym usually has me and the over 70 crowd. The motivation is to be able to move as well as they can at their age.

Ok you guys, you got me laughing!!!! Sooooo Emmi-you get to indulge yourself with “eye candy"-all I have to say to that is MEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOWW. (Be sure to tell us ladies the name of your gym lol) and well Bree, there is nothing like the sight of these older folks getting their grooves on -as long as it doesn’t smell like Bengay in there you should be ok!!!
The Biggest Loser DVD is actually a great workout!!! Nothing pansy about it....I didn’t have a medicine ball but used my hand weights instead and really, it was comparible to a class you would take at your local gym. Two thumbs up.
I also got my run in just now, only 3 miles today, but since I ran 5 yesterday figured it was ok to go a bit lighter.....I feel good today!!!

Do you ladies know what it’s like for us men to go to the gym and to try to work out with all the ogling we’re subjected to??
BTW, Bree, there are some really really cute guys at my gym… you should come for a visit.
Julie good job on taking it to the next level, just don’t get carried away and hurt yourself. Bree’s gym is the only gym where they have oygen and cardiac arrest crash cart at the door(for the old folks).
Oh Tom, stop your flattery!!!! I’d LOVE to do a race, not for the competition but simply to finish it without needing oxygen and that crash cart Shawn mentioned. Nothing makes me feel more “Free” than a good run, but you should know that, Mr. Pro!!!!!!
Yeah, I know the feeling....I’m working on building my oxygen capability.....( i really have to try at the run), I’ve been reading up at the VO2 max that people have....some people are just born with the ability to use oxygen more effeciently..... i tend to huff and puff (less than I used to, and can go more miles now)......but I am amazed by people who do it so effortlessly......

I am amazed at what you can do, Tom. I’ve been reading about your Triatholon training as I go through the threads and I am truly impressed. You are very inspirational.
I am in need for a hot bath or perhaps that Massuse that MTM may hire for the “cruise”.....my muscles are screaming!! I started that workout DVD yesterday and it makes you do TONS of squats (of all kinds) and well, my legs, my butt, my shoulders, and arms are well...sore and stiff!! I ran yesterday too........
I did the workout DVD this morning, really had to push myself with all this soreness...I am going to wait until this evening to do a light run maybe another 3 miles but that is it. I figured I’d give my body this afternoon to recoop a bit then get the jog in-If I don’t run, I feel guilty!
It is nice though to have that sore feeling, makes me know that I am working those muscles that haven’t had decent attention in a bit....hopefully they don’t hold a grudge lol.
That Massuse would be nice. Do you think he does house calls? lol
Hey, You may be sore now but next time you do that DVD it won’t hurt so bad. And hey if your still really hurting later maybe you should skip the jog? Just a thought. I don’t want you to hurt yourself.
I can totally relate to the good muscle burning feeling.....
OH man!!! I had plans on getting a good run in last night, waiting until the evening so my muscles could recover a bit from my last few hard workouts.....well I got on the treadmill and ran like a quarter of a mile before I decided that I was in too much pain to run. Is there a thing as being “Too sore” to workout????? Normally I am no woosy....but it seems like I really worked those muscles I need to run, inner thigh, front of my legs, hip flexor.....I took the night off and settled with just 40 minutes of exercise for the day.
Today, the big plan....well is to do at least 60 minutes of cardio....I see all these posts (Bree and Scott for instance) doing all this cardio time and well.....I want to see if I can do that too, I know I can!!!! Here I come better body.......
