DAY 4 (Yesterday)
Well, my girlfriend bailed on me but that didn’t stop me from going for a walk. (Her friend had a DUI the night before and she was going to pick up his car at the impound lot! ) That’s another reason I want to curb the drinking. How stupid was that!
It was absolutely beautiful in NE Ohio yesterday. I contemplated on walking to the gym (1.5 miles away) but it was so nice out that I just bypassed it and kept going all around the neighborhood. My energy level was rather low and the orange that I ate around 3:30 was gone and I was starving. I was starving all day today and I was eating. It so weird. I eat a healthy breakfast, have a mid-morning fruit, usually a big salad for lunch, a mid-afternoon fruit, workout and then have a healthy dinner. I’ve been doing that but I WAS STARVING! Well I walked about 5.5 miles in 1 hr. 10 minutes. I thought I was going to pass out before I got back home! Thank goodness I didn’t. I really have to watch it when I work out alot. I’m diabetic and sometimes my sugar drops too low. I always forget to take a hard candy with me! After I grillled a chicken breast for dinner (it’s springtime and I can grill again!!) I had paperwork to do and I was sooo tired I fell asleep by 9:30PM. That is very early for me.
DAY 5 (today)
Well I did something this morning that I rarely do. I was at the gym at 5:30AM. “The Power of Early.” Scott is right. Getting the workout in right away really gets your day moving in a more positive direction. Since I had gone to bed so early last night I had no problem getting up at 4:50. It’s not something I want to do everyday but when I have stuff planned for right after work, it’s the best thing to do. But one thing I will NOT do again next time I workout at 5:30AM is that I won’t go without eating a little something. I really should know better but hey, I was half awake and I didn’t even notice I was hungry until I got to the gym.
Eliptical Trainer
40 minutes
526 calories burned
4.12 miles
exertion level set to 8 today
(I’ll be re-weighing my self on Monday morning)
I’m feeling pretty good right now. I just had a light yogurt with some Fiber One mixed in and some coffee of course. Gotta have my coffee. I’m starting to plan my weekend. Tonight I’m going for dinner with my boyfriend. I love Lent because I love fish and it’s Friday. Tomorrow I want to go bike riding in the Metroparks or down the Tow Path. On Sunday if it’s not raining I’d like to go walking. I’ll let you all know on Monday when I’ll have internet access again. TGIF!!!!!
Bree I have a pair of “Magic Jeans” in my closet that I want to wear again. Hopefully I’ll be squeezing back into them soon! They magically make my butt look good! LOL
Sorry that your friend bailed on you, but at least you took advantage of the day and walked. Today is going to be a beautiful day in Ohio (before the cold weather arrives to strike at us again!!), take advantage of it!! I give you LOADS of credit for hitting the gym early, I always look at those “early risers” with a bit of envy, my body doesn’t function that way, I am an afternoon workout person, that bed always is too tempting!!!!
Take care of yourself and your sugar levels...but it really seems that you are making the right choices in food and are making a conscious effort on your selections. That is GREAT!!!!! You really are starting this challenge off right!
As for those Magic Jeans....I have a pair (or two) of those, when I workout, I picture myself in them again.
I giggled about the magic jeans. Isn’t it fun to get excited about clothes again?
You did so well walking, that’s a very fast pace, you’d zip right past me. Great job. And great job on not letting your friend’s bailing affect your workout. Her loss.
I have a couple of questions about your diet and exercise. Do you keep a food journal? Are you eating enough healthy carbs to fuel your workouts? What is the ratio of calories burned to calories consumed? The reason for the questions, I don’t think you’re eating enough. I try to have 1500 calories as my minimum for the days I work out. And I make sure there’s a 1000 calorie difference in how many I eat versus burn. (Eat 1000 more than burn.)
However, your body may just be about to drop down below it’s set point and heavily rebelling. Try adding a slice of whole grain toast to the snack you eat before your workouts. If that’s not possible, a cereal bar that’s low in sugar would be great. Have fun this weekend, and be careful.
Protein Protein Protein....I noticed on the days I don’t eat very much protein I become like a ravenous animal!!! I find that munching on a handful of almonds, putting peanut butter on toast in the morning, or eating eggs etc. really helps me curb those “faint spells” or pig out sessions.
Spring really is a great time to get out and move. Sounds like your bar friends will be learning their life lessons the hard way. It’s really good that you have a head start. Sorry your friend bailed. Just keep doing what you’re doing and keep inviting (not nagging, inviting) and you might inspire them to get moving too. Listen to Bree regarding your food intake, she’s learned through experience. You may need to add some carbs to fuel the workouts (complex carbs, not sugars) and with your diabetes you will probably need to keep a closer watch on when you eat.
Go for the magic jeans. I’ll bet you’ll look like a goddess in them.
Speaking of jeans, I’m looking for a new pair now, but I can’t find anything that has long enough legs, and is cut slim (love that word) through the hips and thighs. I’m tired of baggy jeans. I wear a size 12 and need a minimum of a 33 inch inseam.
I do keep a journal logging my exercise and calories. I have a paper journal and a Balance Log program in my Palm Pilot. I generally like to stay around 1500. Sometimes I guess that’s not always enough. When I was seeing a dietitian, after my diabetes diagnosis, she set me on a plan that seemed to work well. 150-170 carbs per day, about 40 grams of fat, about 70 grams of lean protein and about 25 grams of fiber. Maybe it’s time to make an adjustment, especially since I’m working out so much again. I probably average over 500 calories burned per workout. I don’t know the ratio. Math makes my head buzz. Every day is different and I can only do one day at a time. Some days I need more fuel than others, some days less. It all depends on the intensity that I will be working at or even what time of the month it is. And yes, I do eat nuts on occassion. I take it easy on those because the fat and calories are so concentrated in just a little bit. Thank you guys! You all are so awesome!
Paula, as for jeans, I find that I have to try on about 20 pairs to get ONE I really like. Even though they all say the same size they are all sewed different. I totally understand your dillema. I’ve been having pretty good luck at Fashion Bug. It’s my favorite “disposable” trendy clothing store. I say disposable because things are usually so cheap that you don’t feel bad about putting the said clothes in a Good Will bag at the end of the season.
Well Happy Monday to everyone!
Saturday Day 6:
Gym
Nautilus Equipment 3 sets of 10 reps each on 13 different machines. Worked every major muscle group.
35 minutes elliptical. 450 calories burned.
Sunday Day 7: Rest day. Every muscle is screaming.
Welcome Back, weekends are quiet here without you!!! Let me be the first to congratulate you on your weight loss!!! You are doing a great job of living your life in reverse, staying away from your old “pits and traps” of life. I hope your muscles have settled down, I predict ANOTHER great week for you!!! You are on the right path, and boy oh boy, you are going to knock people’s socks off!
Quiet without me? Naaah, I’m sure you guys cause quite a stir when I’m not around! LOL. From the looks of all the threads I have to catch up on I see that that is true! My weekend was good. I think I was more gooder than badder. It seemed to go so fast though. I took a nap Sunday afternoon. That is such a treat. I don’t know the last time I got to do that and I sure needed it. Thanks again for all the support!
Glad to hear you had a more gooder weekend. They always seem to go so fast.
Thanks for the advice on jeans. I’ll have to give it a try when I can actually motivate myself to shop. I’m one of those odd women who hate to shop and cringe at the prospect of going into the mall.
MONDAY DAY 8
1 hr 15 minute power walk
Approx. 5.5 miles
I really need to replace my pedometer so that I can put down the actual miles and steps. Monday was a beautiful day to be outside. After my walk I grilled a juicy porkchop and did stuff around my house. I also went to bed early.
TUESDAY DAY 9
5:30 AM Gym - Elliptical Machine
40 minutes
4.29 Miles
530 Calories burned
Average speed 6.4
Level 8
I am going to do my first “Double-up” today. I am going to go back to the gym after work and do a whole session of weights and some more cardio. I am definately feeling the benefits of moving! Yesterday I was going through a stack of jeans that I haven’t been able to fit into for awhile. They range from biggest on top to the smallest I got to. 16 to 12. I got my 14’s on and didn’t have lay on the floor to zip them up!!! They were a bit snug but I suspect that by maybe the middle next week they should fit well enough to wear out in public! Yeay!
Congrats on your growing wardrobe!!!! Isn’t it amazing what lengths we go through in order to zip up pants???? I hope to see you strutting around in Twinburg in those size 14s!!! I too am doing a double up today, let’s root each other on!!! Enjoy this day, it won’t be this nice tomorrow......winter revisited...booooooooo
Here’s a trick I’ve learned on making tight jeans public-worthy. Wear them at home one day when they won’t get dirty, that stretches them out a bit and they can be worn the next day looking like they fit perfectly. You are kicking butt.
TUESDAY DAY 9 Con’t
I went back to the gym after work for my double-up and I concentrated on the weight machines. I spent an hour doing 4 sets on each. I followed that up with 15 minutes on the elliptical.
Today is Day 10. I’ll be going to the gym after work tonight. I didn’t sleep well at all last night. There was no way I was going to the gym at 5:30AM today.
When I did sleep last night I had the funniest dream. I dreamt that all of us here at MTM Community were living in some condo community together. When I wanted to know about exercise I’d run over to Paula’s house and ask her. When I wanted to know about anything else I’d run to Bree’s house. Scott was never around but he had the biggest house, go figure. Anyways, I thought that was funny and I wanted to share. Talk at ya all later.
LOL, that dream sounds halarious!!! Go figure Scott had the biggest house-perhaps for entertaining all of us MTM’ers. Congrats on your first double up, quite the accomplishment!!! Has to feel good!!! Your first 10 days of this challenge should prove to you that you are doing a GREAT job, here is a pat on the back *pat* *pat*
