This is so weird… I was just reading an article about dairy this morning.  Take it with a grain of salt, but if you’d like to read the article, I found it here:

Eliminate Dairy and Acids

I agree with Jackie - everyone has a type of eating plan that will work with their particular body.  Learning to listen, getting good information, that’s all part of getting and staying in vibrant health.

Here is an excerpt from the article that I found particularly interesting:
<<The basis of their argument is that dairy contains calcium (stronger bones argument again), plus potassium, phosphorus, protein, vitamins D, A and B12, riboflavin and niacin. However, nowhere on throughout the 3-a-day literature are quantities of these nutrients or daily requirements discussed – nor the fact that you can get each of these nutrients in abundance from fruit and vegetables without having to consume the cholesterol, calories, saturated fats and sugars contained in dairy produce.

There is simply no way that dairy can help support weight loss. Even skimmed milk is over 50% sugar (as a percentage of calories) and of the thousands of research studies conducted on dairy and its role in health, only one researcher claims that milk aids in weight loss. And his research is funded by the dairy industry.>>

The part about the amount of sugar in skim milk is what knocked me over.  More personal research on this is necessary by me.  I’m barely eating anything, and the pounds are not melting off as fast as I’d like.  So I have to look at the little things… including the amount of milk that I put in my coffee and tea every morning.

Good luck in your search, and thanks for an interesting thread!

Cheers,
~ Josette ~

That does not compute the part about sugar taking up 50% of the deal for skim milk .. i was just looking at my skim milk and the calories you get from the carbs/sugar is only 25 calories, which is NOT 50% of the total cal intake for an 8oz glass. I think they have to get their facts straighter, that or use qualifiers to state things are different from country to country and product to product.

Sides id like to see those who are allergic to soy like myself get the necessary nutriants and what not without the dairy .. i have tired to get it via veggies and the like but like many others who have a soy allergy i also have allergies to various veggies and fruits which share commonality to soy and what not, so am NOT going there, i’ve had enough flack from pro soy/milk alternatives anti dairy ppl to last me a lifetime.

I tried switching, and had no noticeable effects. So I’m back to the milk. I feel better after I’ve had a glass (thank you to walknrow for the recommendation) after my cardio or weight workouts. It has helped to keep me going and get my housework done in the afternoons. But everyone is different, so I think you should go with what feels right to you and what you’re doctor says.

That’s interesting about the almond milk.  I haven’t seen that in the store yet.

Tony Robbins is a known proponent of Fit For Life, so it doesn’t shock me that he has something against dairy products.

And you know, I do aswell. I limit them in my diet not only because I’m lactose intolerant but also due to the fact that if it’s not organic and raw(or at least organic) it’s just not something I would want to be putting in my body on a daily basis. But I still eat some cheese here and there, a little bit won’t hurt.

This has been the golden ticket of the dairy industry for many, many years – regardless of the fact that it simply is not true. Literally hundreds of highly respected research studies conducted over many years and with a huge cross section of participants have shown that increased dairy intake does not correlate with improved bone strength (Cumming and Klineberg, 1994; Huang and Himes, 1996; Cummings, Nevitt and Browner et al, 1995; Nordin, 1997). In several studies, dairy calcium has been shown to actually increase the risk of osteoporosis and decrease the strength of bones!

Thank you for telling the truth........We don’t get a lot of that anymore, clearly.

Wow. I never knew that something touted as so good for you could have such negative effects. It makes sense that milk in every species is ingested while very young, then only water seems to be necessary. The dairy industry is exactly that, an industry and as an industry will try to make as much money as it can. I mean in the early 20th century, doctors were actually suggesting that smoking was healthy. Collectively we need to wake up! Rarely have humans in the 20th and 21st century have been taught how to eat and drink in a way to maximize nutrition and health. Although I am not allergic to milk or any food for that matter, I think that I now have to do some thinking into what I ingest in order to live a truly balanced life - mind, body and spirit. Thanks for all the info here and for the quandary that I know face.

Cheers!
