Hi everyone,

Between listening to Scott’s recent shows and slowly watching The Secret (many thanks to Sally for pointing out the google video link, btw), I’ve come to a conclusion.  If I want people to be grateful for me and the work I do, I’m going to project gratefulness out into the universe.  And I thought that MTM-land was an ideal place to do it.

So, every day at least until the end of the month, I’m going to come onto this thread and note down five or more things I’m grateful for.  Beacuse today is the first day, I’m going to do a double-header and post 10! The items on the list might repeat, but I’m going to try to have at least one new thing every day.

If this project inspires you, I encourage you to post on this thread or start your own.  “The Spiritual Side of Things” forum hasn’t been used much lately—let’s change that!

So… today I am grateful for:

1. I am grateful for friends and acquaintances who give me good advice about hard life choices.
2. I am grateful for enthusiastic students who enjoy the courses I teach.
3. I am grateful for Sally, who provided the link to The Secret on these forums.
4. I am grateful for my mom, who is a wonderful support to me and lets me live at home.
5. I am grateful for my boyfriend, who always makes me feel special.
6. I am grateful for creative roleplaying buddies, who joined me in having an awesome time last night.
7. I am grateful for the movie, The Princess Bride, which I caught a snippet of last night.  It never ceases to make me laugh.
8. I am grateful for my teddy bear.  Because teddy bears need love, too.
9. I am grateful for my ipod and podcasts, because now I can listen to new music anywhere I want.
10. I am grateful for tea, because it is so tasty and calming.

So that’s it for today.  See you tomorrow!

Cheers,
Julie

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

What a wonderful concept.  I started to write things down, then immediately became overwhelmed at all I have to be grateful for.  I can give you a short list but it doesn’t even begin to reach the extent of my feelings.
This is at least a partial list of what I have to be thankful for.

I’m thankful for the wonderful support environment we have created.
I’m thankful for the new friends I have on the MTM forums, and in the kayak club, and on the ski bus, . . . . . .
I’m thankful for the level of health and fitness that I have achieved
I’m thankful for my kayak
I’m even more thankful for my dry suit
I’m thankful for living in a place where there are so many opportunities to go out and play, and so many people to play with
I’m thankful for my new boyfriend (yes, I’m actually using that term so possibilities are endless)
I’m thankful for a job that is interesting, allows me to grow personally and professionally, and gives me the flexibility and freedom to have a personal life
I’m thankful for my friends in Florida, Colorado, Virginia, Texas, California, North Carolina, and any place I may have forgotten.
I’m thankful for my cat (total unconditional love)

I think my next step is to start a gratitude book.  (Julie, thanks for inspiring that idea) I just got a beautiful photo album that will be perfect.  Just add some photos, and one line of what that photo means and how grateful I am for that experience.

One more - I"m thankful for Julie, Tom, Bree, Scott, Carlyn, XC, Laura, and every one who contributes to this forum.  You’ve made a real difference in my life.

I just finished watching the Secret.  And I saw Oprah last week (I am thankful for my Tivo).  Pretty powerful stuff!

I am thankful for my health.  Everything works, most of the time nothing hurts.
I am grateful for my job, and for the income it brings - more than I thought I would be making - and for my brilliant co-workers and funny, kind boss.
I am grateful for my house (where all is calm and working properly), and my apartment with the ocean view
I am truly fortunate to get to live in my little rain forest, and I am grateful every time I look out the window, hear an eagle or feel the mist on my face
And I am really grateful for a few days of sun and a hike in the snow on Saturday!
I am grateful for my car, Spike, and I love her almost as much as Tom loves Fuji
I am thankful for my dog, Rainey.  She rocks. I should put her picture back as my avatar…
I am thankful for my grandparents, who are my inspiration, and for my mom, who did the best she could
And I am thankful to have so many caring friends, in real time and on line

Still working my way through The Secret and absorbing all the cool ideas.

I really like the idea of taking some time every day to be thankful for what we have.

I have so much to me thankful - I’ll try to just let it flow:

At Work: job, great boss and coworkers, important work, being appreciated

At Home: my husband who loves me and says I’m not fat, my two sweet cats, that my adult son has a job and lives on his own, my house, my garden, my sewing room, my sewing skills,

In the Community: my quilting guild, my church, neighbors, nearby stores, safe and friendly atmosphere, my dentist who patched me up after falling and breaking some front teeth, that my gym is 10 minutes away, great personal trainer who pushes me to increase my fitness level

I suppose starting this project has kept my eye busy watching out for things to be grateful for. So here, in a double-header, is another list:

1. I am grateful for my bathrobe, for it is snuggly.
2. I am grateful for the group of nursery kids I passed this morning: they were so cute!
3. I am grateful to be part of an awesome karate dojo.
4. I am grateful for my mom, who drove me to and from the metro when it was cold.
5. I am grateful for random encounters when I’m not expecting them (hi, Jon!).
6. I am grateful for cheap grapes in the winter.
7. I am grateful for vanilla-scented soap.
8. I am grateful that my interview this morning went pleasantly.
9. I am grateful for food courts, where I can buy relatively cheap, tasty food.
10. I am grateful for the smoothie I had after lunch: it was both tasty and purple, a win on all counts.

Cheers,
Julie

Thanks for starting this thread, Julie.  I was a day late listening to Tuesday’s Daily Boost and it was wonderful hearing Scott talk about his gratitude for life.

I’m so grateful for so many things in my life that it’s hard to list them all.  But I’ll give it a start:

1. Sadie, Clarence, Tiffany & her fiance, and Audrey - who are all taking care of my Dad
2. My parents, for being so sane and loving and supportive
3. My body, which has stayed strong and healthy and reliable throughout the years
4. My boss and co-workers, who make going to work each day such a pleasure
5. The genealogists of this world, even more obsessed than I, who are daily putting more and more information out on the Web and making my research easier
6. My cozy, comfortable condo
7. My super-firm, extra-comfortable bed which helps me to have really good nights’ sleeps
8. My treadmill!
9. My reliable car
10. Scott and the fantastic community he has created here at MTM.

This is a great idea, Julie! I will try to keep up with this regularly. I think daily acknowledgment of things for which we are grateful truly does open the door for other things we want in our lives.

- my boyfriend, who loves me no matter what I’m going through
- roses
- my mantra and mala
- rain
- The Secret
- finding MTM and the awesome community here
- my mom
- getting good surprises in the mail
- my comfy bed
- warm showers when I’m cold

Wednesday, Feb. 14:

Today I am grateful for…

1. I am grateful for my students, who brought me chocolates for Valentine’s day.
2. I am grateful for my interviewers this morning, who offered me tea.
3. I am grateful for cheesecake… sometimes it’s just too tasty to resist.
4. I am grateful for snow, at least when I can watch it from a comfy indoor location.

And, finally, there are only 5 things today because:
5. I am grateful for my boyfriend, who’s in the other room but will be returning shortly, and will be spending the night.  *grin*

Cheers,
Julie
