Missing: One Click

Has anyone seen my click??? I seem to have lost it.

The last few weeks I have lost motiviation, I am making bad food choices, using excuses to not exercise.

One of the problems is that we have been having a lot of rain, usually right as I get home from work so I can’t walk outside. And no, I can’t walk anyway with an umbrella because there is usually thunder and lightening also or a torrential rain. But I could go to the gym and use the treadmill or elliptical, which I have done a few times but not enough. So the rain is just an excuse, but it does put me in a bad mood.

So I am hoping that acknowledging my lost click here will help me find it again.

It is another rainy day, so I am going to head to the gym and see if I can find my click there.

C25K Questions

I am thinking about starting the c25k program. I have a few questions for anyone who has done it. Can I do it 4 times a week instead of 3? Should I be doing strength training too, or just focusing on the running part? Should I also add in different workouts/cardio 1 or 2 days a week or just do what they say? If anyone knows the answers, let me know…

I’ve been having some lower back pain on and off for a while. After talking to people and researching online I’m pretty sure I have sciatica. I know I should see a doctor, but the explanation online is exactly what I have and it says a doctor really can’t do anything for it any way. It says that ibuprofen, ab exercises, and some stretching is the best thing to do. Has anyone else had this? If so, does anyone have any tips?

Body Fat Enigma

Hello folks, hope someone can help me with an enigma.

What’s this all about?

I have scales which tell me how much I weigh and my percentage body fat. I tell it how tall I am and that I am female. My (much larger than me) fiance comes along to get weighed and we tell the scales that he is a man, 6’ 5” and rather bizarrely in my opinion, he’s running at like, 19% body fat. HE’S FATTER THAN ME!!!! His waist is 48” and weighs a whopping 280lbs.

I am 5’ 11”, 182lbs and my body fat is 40%. Because I am female.

I don’t get it and I don’t like it.

Please tell me I need new scales.

Also, how do I figure out the best body fat for me? Does anyone know?

Thanks for all your help.

Hard time running

I thought of an interesting question today, and I wanted to know if anyone had the answer. Why is it that I can do a eliptical machine for over an hour at 75% of my heart rate, but when I run on the street, its takes me only 5 minutes or less till my breathing is so heavy that I have to slow down to a walk. Anyone might know the answer?

How do you help someone who doesn’t want to be helped?

A very good friend of mine is constantly complaining about the state of his apartment. He’s a neat-freak, and in the past he kept his apartment in near-pristine condition (well, as much as possible with two cats). Since he moved in to his new apartment last July, though, life has continually gotten in the way in the form of out of town friends, time spent with his girlfriend, or last-minute overtime at work. He’ll plan to clean his apartment, but *something* will come up to prevent him from doing it. This, of course, doesn’t stop him from complaining about the state of his messy apartment, and how annoyed he is at it.

Having listened to Scott (and being a naturally organized person myself), I see lots of ways to fix the situation. The problem is that he doesn’t want help. He doesn’t want me to suggest he does things in a new way, because “that’s how he is,” and he doesn’t do things differently.

Has anyone faced a similar situation, where a friend or relative is doing something that causes them unhappiness, something you know you could help fix, but they don’t want your help? How did you deal with it?

Thanks,
Julie

Getting back to positive when negative gets in your head

Interested in your thoughts…
How do you get leverage over your state when you go
through short periods of stress or negativity?

Usually running in a passionate upbeat state.
Once in a while something knocks you out of balance.
Doesn’t last long and you know better intellectually.

Any tricks or techniques to get back on track sooner?
Hate to waste even a minute out of rhythm!
Thanks!

Caloric Intake

Hey everyone, been a while since I posted here, and it’s good to be back. I have been trying to hone in on my diet along with getting in that much needed cardio.

I have been working with an online fitness and diet tracking tool called Gyminee: http://www.gyminee.com
and it auto calculates what calorie intake you need to maintain. Mine came up to 2500 - 3000 per day and I have been shooting for 1500 - 1700 with pretty good success.

I have checked on other calculators as well and they give similar results. Doesn’t this seem really high for weight loss.

I am a 27 year old male. 214 lbs, 5’11’’.

What do you do when you can’t get to the gym?

Up here in Toronto, we had a major snow storm last night. It was my night to go to the gym, but I couldn’t make it there because of the storm.

What do people do when they can’t get to the gym because of a storm? I used an exercise tape in lieu of going to the gym. It works well in the short term, but I prefer going to the gym because it is more motivating and I get to talk to the girl at the front desk at the club.
