Those Darn Girl Scouts!

They did it again—they sold those cookies of theirs to folks all over this office building. I have walked past their cookies on the table in the kitchen at least 12 times today and did not pick any out to eat (even though one of my favorites was on that table). I was so proud of myself.

And then ...

my boss came by with a box of Tagalongs and put them on my shelf. I caved. I ate two. And, then, I promptly logged them and walked down the hall with the box “sharing the wealth” with everybody on this floor. End of problem.

Tonight? Aquarobics for sure.

A Change In Identity

Scott talks all the time about how important it is to change our identity and how we think of ourselves to an updated identity as we progress in our journeys. It’s really something to think about how long it can take us to think of ourselves in terms of the “new” us rather than the “old” us as we change and grow. We can be so hard on ourselves sometimes!

It really dawned on me this week how quickly other people can change their perception of you towards the better, and how we should take a lesson from that. At the very least, we can use the quick change in the way others see us when we are working on changes in our lifestyles as a motivator to keep on moving towards accomplishment of our fitness goals (and other goals as well).

People at work have seen me consistently eating oatmeal in the morning and salad at lunch—and being more focused and consistent with it (as in every day for the past month), and they are taking notice—especially of the salads. My salads are so colorful that everybody wants one! I hear from at least 2-3 people a day for the past month about how healthily I consistently eat. People are joking about mugging me for my salads!

So, people do notice when you are consistent and focused. It makes an impression on them and can be used to make an impression on yourself to stay motivated and moving! Now, I wait to hear the first person say they can notice that I’m losing weight!

There are lessons all around us if we just look!

iPhone Phishing

hihihi -

i know that i’m not alone here in using my iPhone and a boatload of apps to help me meet my goals and track progress so i wanted to make sure that i also share information about some potential scams to get critical information about the iPhone that will help criminals clone your phone and sell the information.

there is a phishing scam about a FREE 1 YEAR WARRANTY EXTENSION. it is a very professionally done page but the intent is to get pertinent information about legitimate phones and sell it. Here is what the phishers are asking for:

“What are the phishers after? The email of the user, the Serial number, IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity), the type of iPhone (ie. 3G / 3GS) and the capacity of the device (ie. 16GB / 32GB).”

if you want to read the whole article, here is the link: http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=5460&tag;=nl.e019

ciao!

Ever Try a Grapple?

Mike came home with a Grapple yesterday (pronounced “Gray-pul) that he saw in the produce section. It’s a cross between a grape and an apple, and I just finished eating my first one. It’s really kind of strange. The jury’s still out on these for me, but I think I’ll stick to apples and/or grapes separately. Has anybody tried them? Do you like them? What will they think of next?!

I recently started subscribing to Prevention magazine and like it a lot. Sometimes I get tired of seeing their “quick” ways to flatten your belly or lose weight for the summer, etc. I’m wondering what types of magazines are good for those of us that are dedicated to fitness. What do you read?

Goal Accomplished!!! Share your Successes

It’s the end of the year and before we jump right into goal setting how about taking a few minutes to share you success stories from 2007. Sometimes we don’t realize just how far we’ve come until we look back for a few minutes.

I remember climbing Tuckerman’s Ravine on Mount Washington in New Hampshire many years ago. We were hiking with skies and were planning on skiing the headwall. We climbed slowly, one step at a time climbing up steps that had been packed in the snow. Finally, when we took a break and looked back, we realized just how far we had climbed, even though while we were climbing, all we saw was more snow and more steps ahead. From our spot on the mountain, it seemed like we could see forever, the cars below looked like ants, we could see Wildcat Ski area.... All we did was look at our journey from a different perspective to appreciate how much progress we had made up that mountain.

This year, I’ve accomplished many goals, and not accomplished others. The most important is my relationship with my boyfriend. With lots of support from MTM and others, I’ve made some significant breakthroughs in the relationship and we have found something that will last for a long long time. Accomplishing the goal, just means that I will make new goals to continue to improve and enrich the relationship. Next year we want to find a place to live together, and who knows what else.

I finally learned to roll my kayak - Remember that I was going to learn to roll or drown trying. I’m happy to say that I’m alive and breathing, and it’s not salt water that I am breathing. In addition to just the rolling skills, I also took an instructor’s workshop and started teaching kayaking. Rolling was the hardest skill that I ever tried to learn. It’s not intuitive, requires being comfortable under water wearing a 17’ boat, and is a combination of coordination and flexibility more than strength. Once it’s mastered, it’s very easy to do. I was at the point of giving up by the end of the summer, but then I pushed through, kept going and finally did it. Another month of twice a week pool sessions and practice, practice, practice, I finally think I have it. That doesn’t mean stop practicing though, I’ll be back in the pool when it opens again next year.

There are other smaller goals that I’ve accomplished - some at work, some around the house, some with friends. I’m grateful for the support and encouragement found here at MTM. I’m looking forward to hearing about everyone else’s success this year.
