Christmas Baking Tip

Here’s a tip I picked up recently that is worth passing on. You might think that I having been watching too much Biggest Loser but the tip is “Chew gum while you do your Christmas baking projects.” You will be less likely to nibble. I have been using this tip while cooking dinner and cleaning up the table after--don’t need to eat another meal of the kids’ leftovers.

LOVE peanut butter

I love having a milk shake for lunch, and they tide me over for dinner, but i love the banana peanut butter flavor. since 2 Tablespoons of peanutbutter adds 200 calories, does anyone have a suggestion to add a peanut taste to my milk shake? is there a peanut extract? that might work?
thanks for your suggestions!

Coupons for Vegetables and Luna Bars

You can actually find coupons for fresh vegetables! Go to the website of Earthbound Farm Organics. You have to take a quiz which requires learning about organic farming, but then you get several coupons for $1 off salad greens, etc. You can also sign up for a newsletter which usually contains more coupons. In my Wal-mart they have romaine lettuce, salad mixes, and carrots from this brand.

Also, eBay is a great place to find coupons for Luna or Clif bars. You are purchasing the coupons from people who have collected them. I have gotten $0.50 off 1 bar several times. You usually purchase 10-15 coupons at a time. Try searching “organic coupon” on eBay or even on Google and you will come up with lots.

Here’s a link to a site which lists manufacturers who have coupons on their websites:

Eating Smaller meals

I used to have a problem with the idea that weight loss comes from eating smaller and more frequent meals throughout the day, until the colleague at the office told me that they noticed I already do this.

I usually bring my lunch to work. Although my lunches are the most creative, I learned to space my consumption throughout the day.

My lunch usually consists of a sandwich or a piece of chicken, some yogourt, a banana, an apple and sometimes a soup. Instead of eating everything at one time, I chose one item at a time each hour. For example, around 11, I’ll eat my sandwich, at 12 I’ll eat my soup, at 1 I’ll have my yogourt, at 2 I’ll eat my banana and then at 3 I’ll eat my apple. About 3 hours later, it’s time for my dinner.

It seems to be working. I have lost some weight, but not a lot.

Nutrition Values Recipe Calculator compared to package Info

I’m new to using FitDay and I’ve noticed that there can be big discrepancies between calorie and nutrition data given there when compared to what is listed on the packaging of items. How concerned should I be about accuracy? I am accurate and careful when measuring foods with measuring cups and spoons or with a scale, and I am finding myself being very careful about entering every BLT(bite, lick and taste.) Some things just aren’t worth putting in your mouth when you know you’ll have to add it to your food log!
Do you all go by what the computer says or by what the package says?

No time to work out? Wear a Pedometer

Just wanted to post another tip for getting through the busy holiday season. I bought a pedometer about a year ago and never used it. When I was getting ready to go out of town for Thanksgiving, I decided wear it and try to make it to 10,000 steps each day. This way, if I was unable to get in my usual hour of cardio, at least I would move more. Well, I have been surprised just how motivating it is for me. I have continued to wear it and it is giving me that little extra push to walk my errands at work, park farther away from the store, etc. My kids have gotten used to me marching in place when I am standing up doing things around the house. Last night I was reading through some mail (standing up) and my daugther said, “Don’t you think you could be marching while you are reading that?” I am really not a fanatic or anything but little things really do add up. I highly recommend trying it.
