How To Make Sense Out Of Chaos In Your Life

I spend a good amount of time involved in personal, executive and business coaching and I always get a this question -

“What do you actually DO in your coaching?”

Most folks just want to know the bigger “plan”, of how I work with their belief patterns, values, and ultimately re-arrange their life into a rhythm that better fits with their goals.

That’s the “coach” answer - the fun stuff that everyone likes to hear.

But that’s not the answer I give. What I really do is much more simple:

I ground you.

I cut through the B.S. and give you some solid truth to work with.

Think about it…

There’s always spin going on around you. The media is bending their stories to keep you watching. Your boss breathing down your neck for tomorrow’s deadline. And your kids… well there’s always 4 different stories for any incident involving kids.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m not saying that the world is lying to you.

In fact, deep down I truly believe that most people are generally “good” and try to treat you that way too.

Still, the truth is that almost everything you encounter during your day has been layered with other people’s opinions, agendas, and frankly, their moods in that moment.

No one is immune to it, and sometimes you just don’t know what’s going on around you.

When it happens to me, I dig into my NLP background, and one of the places I go right away is to get down and See It For What It Is. No More, No Less.

Here’s a simple trick you can use today to see things exactly as they are.

Every single situation you find yourself in, just ask:

“What’s really going on here?”

Cut through the clutter.
Close the door and think about it.
Get yourself out of the way.

“What’s

REALLY

going on here?”

I’ll be honest with you, you may not always like the answer. Every now and again you’re going to figure out that YOU are the reason the argument started, or the deadline was missed.

(Don’t turn on me yet - this is a GOOD THING.)

Staying grounded is a pretty simple concept that most people have forgotten. Most folks are so caught up in how fast the world is spinning and which season premier is on TV tonight that nobody knows what’s really going on.

When you ask this simple question you’ll be one of the few who actually understand what’s going on in any situation. Which, by the way, gives you ultimate power that flows effortlessly.

When you can honestly answer the question…

“What’s really going on here?”

…You’ll be able to trust yourself and act accordingly.

It’s either right or it’s wrong; it’s black or it’s white.

This is absolutely freeing

When you see things as they are right now in this minute, with no drama, no mess, and no “stuff” surrounding it, something magical happens.

You’ll feel it the minute you do it:

All the dreams, all the possibilities of what can be in the future become possible because…

You’ll now know exactly where you are. And if you know where you are, you can go anywhere, can’t you?

Give it a try today and be sure to let me know how it goes.

And, if you’ve got any cool tricks for staying grounded in your life, I’d love to hear them! Just share your comment below.

  • Hello Scott,  I have been a fellow MTMer since about 2006 and truly love your coaching and motivation.  However, recently I noticed that on your podcast that you mentioned doing another lean out contest with your friend, Mike. Question:  did you creep up to 171 lbs from what I thought you were 161 lbs in June, 2010?

If you are anything like me, your business can be over whelming but I think sometime the “Coach” needs a bit of “coaching” boost too? True, so good luck with the journey and thanks for being my daily motivation.  I have maintained my weight loss and a fabulous lifestyle for over 4 years.  Love you and Keep Moving!  Erin aka Rilee in beautiful Michigan.

Thanks for the coaching… coach!  Actually, I never got down to 161 which would put me at 10% body fat.

I’ve always stayed within about a 3 pound range around 170.  My body likes that weight and I feel great there.

Going lower is something that Mike and I look at as a training challenge that keeps us in check.

    So…where am I now?

I’m at 169 at 14.5% - I’m going to lean down to 161 and 10%.  My guess is it will be difficult to stay in that range it all for the challenge.
