0 CommentsIf you have been hanging around MotivationToMove.com for any length of time, you know I’m a former fat guy living in a thin guys body. I could blame my mesomorph frame for my tendency to easily pack on fat cells, or that I was just too busy to pay attention to what I was eating. Heck, I could blame just about anything and would be pretty close to being right - but a few years ago everything changed.
I’m not sure how it happened, but I had somehow crossed my self-imposed “line in the sand” and weighed in at 248 pounds. I remember saying, “What in the world? I promised myself I would never cross 200 pounds”! Yes, I was officially a fat guy, a realization I wasn’t happy about, one that made me feel bad and unhealthy, and frankly, made me scared that my life would pass me by if I didn’t do something about it.… and that was the “click” that changed my life.
I’m not always sure where motivation come from, but I am sure that it always shows when you need it.
A quick trip to the “motivator of last resort”, which some folks call doctors, a total change in my diet, 6-day a week workouts, a little self-discipline, and I managed get things under control and drop 60 pounds in the next six months. My knowledge of good eating, exercise and self-motivation was the reason I was successful at initially losing the weight. My understanding of the controlling nature of the emotional mind games we all play in our head has allowed me to keep the weight off… for the most part… for nine years.
Of course, all of this led to the creation of MotivationToMove.com and today am I in the best shape of my life and helping thousands of folks around the world have the same success. I AM their secret weapon.
But did you know that I have a secret weapon too?
Her name is Joi.
When we first met five years ago, Joi was in great shape. She had never been overweight, had always eaten well and exercised daily, and owned the results to show for it. As we became a couple and eventually married, it became obvious I was going to be merging onto her path, since there was no way she was going to join me for a frozen pizza every other night.
As time passed, I naturally settled into Joi’s healthy world and she began settle into mine by contributing to MotivationToMove.com. She earned her ACE Personal Training and LifeStyle Coaching Certifications, several specially ratings, and continued to transform her body and serve as an example to the folks she was training herself.
Joi has coached folks on the phone, written in her blog (recipes), passed on her knowledge in our podcasts, and even stepped up to speak at various events around the world… all the while getting in even better shape.
She has also supported my health and fitness goals by holding me accountable for what she knows I desire, while still leaving room for a good amount of fun on the weekend - and I have asked her to do the same for you.
